Oahu Shark Tours: Your Questions Answered

Most people arrive here with the same handful of questions before booking a shark tour. This lineup holds 9 tours across two categories: North Shore steel cage dives and cage-free open-water swims. Below you will find how long each runs, what the ratings mean, and how cancellation works.

What To Know Before Booking

Is this site a tour operator?

No. This site compares tours, it does not run them. The nine trips listed here belong to independent operators working out of Haleiwa on Oahu's North Shore, companies such as North Shore Shark Adventures, Hawaii Shark Encounters and One Ocean Diving (see Cage Diving in Hawaii). Booking happens on each operator's live listing. Our job is the sorting: grouping trips by format, rating and time on the water so the differences sit side by side.

Where do the scores come from?

Every rating and review total on this page comes straight from each tour's own booking page. Nothing here is scored or edited by us. The lineup ranges from a few hundred reviews on newer listings to more than three thousand on the most established trip, the Oahu Shark Dive on the North Shore. Prices are left off this site on purpose, since dollar figures move with season and date, and the live listing is the authority.

Which trips can you book?

Nine Haleiwa-area trips sit on this page, split two ways: three steel cage dives on the North Shore and six swims done without a cage in open water. Operators cannot pay for a better spot here. Each listing is a genuine, bookable trip, and nothing appears twice to inflate the total.

Prices, Cage Versus Open Water, And Departure Points

How much do these tours run?

Prices vary by operator and season, so no single figure covers the lineup. For an exact number on your travel date, check the live booking page for the tour you want. Most trips here also come with free cancellation, though cutoff times differ between operators, so glance at the terms before you finalize.

Cage dive or cage-free: what differs?

A cage dive keeps you inside a floating steel cage lowered into open water, breathing surface air while sharks circle outside the bars. A cage-free swim puts you in the water with a small group and crew, no barrier between you and the animals. Both formats run out of the North Shore. The right pick comes down to your comfort level and what each listing spells out for that trip.

How long do trips last?

Most trips fall in a tight band, roughly an hour and a quarter to two hours on the water, plus check-in and the ride back. Each operator sets its own schedule, so confirm the exact window on your listing.

Where do the boats leave from?

Every tour on this site departs from Oahu's North Shore, most from Haleiwa harbor. No tour on the roster includes hotel pickup; every listing expects a self-drive, rideshare or bus to the dock. Each listing states its exact meeting point.

Can you cancel at no cost?

Free cancellation comes standard on nearly every tour listed here. Cutoff times differ by operator, so check your listing's terms before paying.

How much, and from where?

Each operator runs its own departure schedule, so the times on the live booking page are the source of truth. Early morning slots are the norm out of Haleiwa, when the ocean is usually calmest.

Hours And Departure Times

How long, and how early?

Trips on the roster run from about 1.5 to 2 hours on the water. The North Shore Shark Adventures cage dive is the shortest at roughly 1.5 hours, while most cage-free swims, including both One Ocean Diving tours, run closer to two.

How long is a tour?

Age rules are set by each operator, not by this site (see Kids and Age Rules). Check the listing for the tour you want and confirm its minimum age before bringing a child along.

What does it cost?

Every tour here is priced per person, with current rates on the live booking page rather than on this site. Prices move with season and demand. Eight of the nine tours include free cancellation; the Pelagic Shark Dive does not.
